The Netherlands Ornithological Union (NOU) is an association for amateur and professional bird researchers and aims to promote interaction and knowledge transfer between the two groups. The association is open to all bird enthusiasts, but focuses particularly on people who want to know more about the distribution, ecology and behavior of birds.

The NOU and its sections organize various activities, including excursions and lectures. Furthermore, the NOU has two journals: a peer-reviewed scientific journal Ardea and in cooperation with SOVON the magazine Limosa. Both publications are (for full members) digitally accessible.
