Abstract

Dactylogyrus larrymilleri n. sp. is described from the greenhead shiner, Notropis chlorocephalus (Cope), and yellowfin shiner, Notropis lutipinnis (Jordan and Brayton) (Pisces: Cyprinidae), from North Carolina and South Carolina, U.S.A. Dactylogyrus larrymilleri differs from its closest apparent relative, Dactylogyrus ornatus Rogers, 1967, by possessing a recurved accessory piece attenuating to a sharp point. The occurrence of Dactylogyrus larrymilleri only on the greenhead shiner and yellowfin shiner corroborates ichthyological evidence that these 2 species of minnows are closely related.
