This study has finished two main contents. In order to analyze the long-term characteristics of waves, the wave fields of north South China Sea (SCS) from 1986 to 2005 are simulated by the wave model WAVEWATCH-III (WW III). The Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) mode is used to simulate the wind input. Comparing the wind and wave simulated data, the results show a great agreement between simulated data and observed data. The monthly characteristics of wind and wave of the whole sea areas are analyzed. The wind speeds and significant wave heights are smallest in spring and largest in winter. The annual wind and wave characteristics of the 8 points are calculated. The directions of prevailing wind and wave of Point 1 to 7 are NE and NEE and the direction of prevailing wind and wave of Point 8 is S and NE
