In the complex marine environment, the ship cable is prone to hitting many faults due to interlacing routing and harsh working conditions. It is required to troubleshoot the ship cables. Taking the ship ground cable fault as an example, this paper performs a simulation with the Hilbert-Huang Transform (HHT) that automatically identifies the cable faults, and builds a model to automatically acquire the information about cable faults. According the findings, it is found by analyzing two types of ship cables that the information about the faults occurred in the trunk or branch can be available from the peak positions. The simulation reveals that the current signal can well reflect the fault information about cables, based on which, the fault location of ship cables will be calculated. The study provides the clues to automatically identifying the ship cable faults with the information and modeling the information acquisition of cable faults.
