Abstract

The nomenclatural history for Pyrrhia aurantiago (Guenée 1852), Pyrrhia cilisca (Guenée 1852), and Pyrrhia exprimens (Walker 1857) is detailed to resolve confusion over the last 150 years concerning those names. Based on characters of the male and female genitalia and coloration and pattern of the fore- and hind wing, Pyrrhia adela Lafontaine and Mikkola 1996 is proposed as a new synonym of Pyrrhia cilisca (Guenée 1852).
