The previously unknown female of the fungus gnat genus Paratinia Mik is described and illustrated. The specimen presumably belongs to the single Nearctic species Paratinia recurva Johannsen. Sexual dimorphism between the female and several males that might be conspecific with the female and with each other is discussed with intrasexual variation observed among the males.
