Oligonychus metasequoiae Kuang, 1992 is redescribed based on the larva, protonymph, deutonymph and adult male and female specimens from China. The ontogenetic development of chaetotaxy in O. metasequoiae and the number and position of solenidia on tibia I are discussed. Patterns of setal addition on legs I–IV from larvae to adults in this species are different from the basic pattern of the Tetranychinae outlined by Lindquist.
