Abstract

The purpose of this application, under Article 23.9.5 of the Code, is to conserve the specific name of the widespread Palaearctic marsh beetle Cyphon palustris Thomson, 1855 (scirtidae), published as a junior primary homonym of Cyphon palustris Germar, 1818 (currently Eubria palustris, psephenidae). Both specific names are in current use and have not been considered congeneric after 1899. It is proposed to conserve the name Cyphon palustris Thomson, 1855 by ruling it not to be invalid by reason of being a junior primary homonym.
