The luridus species-group of Nearctic Pachybrachis Chevrolat, 1836 is defined and revised. The group is composed of ten species, including two described as new species: Pachybrachis confusus Bowditch, Pachybrachis dilatatus Suffrian, Pachybrachis discoideus Bowditch, Pachybrachis femoratus (Olivier), Pachybrachis luridus (Fabricius), Pachybrachis rileyi Barney, Pachybrachis sherriae Barney, new species, Pachybrachis shirleyae Barney, new species, Pachybrachis subfasciatus (LeConte), and Pachybrachis turbidus (LeConte). Neotypes are designated for Cryptocephalus femoratus Olivier, 1808, Cryptocephalus subfasciatus LeConte, 1824, Pachybrachys impurus Suffrian, 1852, and Pachybrachys dilatatus Suffrian, 1852. Lectotypes are designated for Cryptocephalus luridus Fabricius, 1798, Cryptocephalus aesculi Melsheimer, 1846, and Pachybrachys characteristicus Suffrian, 1852. Pachybrachys impurus Suffrian, 1852 and Pachybrachys impurus var. umbrosus Fall, 1915 are synonymized with P. subfasciatus (new synonymies). Pachybrachys characteristicus Suffrian, 1852 and Pachybrachys femoratus var. aquilonis Fall, 1915 are confirmed as synonymies of P. femoratus (Olivier), and Pachybrachis luridus var. nigrinus Blatchley, 1910 and Pachybrachis luridus var. festivus Fall, 1915 are confirmed as synonymies with P. luridus. Twenty-nine new state records are confirmed for members of this species-group. A key to species is given, and a description, figure, and range map is presented for each species.

Phanaeus (Notiophanaeus) zoque Moctezuma and Halffter, new species, of the endymion species-group, is described from the temperate forests of Los Chimalapas in Oaxaca, Mexico. The new species is illustrated and compared with the closely related Phanaeus endymion Harold. A diagnosis to separate it from related species is given, and its ecological aspects are discussed.

Cessator brodzinskyi Ferreira and Ivie, new species, is the third lycid species known from Dominican amber. The new species is described, diagnosed, illustrated, and compared with other fossil and extant species. Leptolycus parda Zaya, 1988 is moved to Cessator parda (Zayas), new combination.

The widespread New World species Olibroporus punctatus Casey, 1890 is diagnosed and illustrated using light microscopy and scanning electron microscopy, and its geographic distribution is mapped. Olibroporus grouvellei (Guillebeau, 1894) (originally in Parasemus Guillebeau) is considered a new junior synonym of O. punctatus. Based on further examination of specimens from the Neotropics, Pycinus Guillebeau, 1893 is reevaluated to be a new junior synonym of Olibroporus Casey, resulting in 12 new combinations. Novel structures imaged using SEM are discussed, and a general discussion of rampant genus-level synonymy in the Phalacridae follows.

Macrocopturus richardpackeri Hespenheide, new species, is described from Panama and named in honor of Richard Roland Edward Packer. The possibility of mimicry and the necessity for an adaptive explanation are discussed for this and a complex of red-spotted species in several conoderine genera.

The bark and ambrosia beetle fauna (Scolytinae) of Peru is reviewed. Examination of ∼8,000 museum and recently collected specimens and a literature review yielded 106 new country records among 248 species distributed among 56 genera and 15 tribes. Our findings for Peru increase the reported species diversity by ∼75%. Despite this thorough review, at least a hundred more Peruvian species remain to be identified or described. The geographic ranges of some species were discovered to extend more than 1,500 km from Central America or the Guyana Shield to southern Peru. It is unknown if these populations are disjunct or if they represent cryptic species. Our results suggest that only 25% of the South American scolytine fauna is known. A new synonymy of Gymnochilus glaber (Schedl, 1951) = Scolytodes schoenmanni Wood, 2007 is proposed.

I summarize literature records and recent identifications of pinhole borers (Platypodinae) of Peru. Most specimens were from two sources: the Caroline Chaboo Beetles of Peru project (collected 2010–2011) and trapped material collected by R. Leschen (in 1993). This study more than doubles the reported species diversity. Examination of 706 mostly male specimens and a literature review yielded a total of 54 identified and 46 unnamed species distributed among 10 of the 11 Neotropical Platypodinae genera. Of the named species, 34 are new to Peru, and 5 species are new to South America: Costaroplatus clunis (Wood), Euplatypus cribricollis (Blandford), Megaplatypus artecarinatus (Schedl), Megaplatypus exaratus (Chapuis), and Neotrachyostus quadrilobus (Blandford). The genera Tesserocranulus Schedl, Costaroplatus Nunberg, Neotrachyostus Browne, Platyphysus Wood, and Teloplatypus Wood are reported for the first time from Peru. Many species found in Peruvian forests remain to be identified or described, as 46 species could not be named at this time; many of these probably are new to science and almost all are new to Peru. Platypus subaequalispinosus Schedl and one morphospecies could not be placed in current genera. Country records are given for all identified species. I find that Platypodinae are unusually widely distributed for tropical insects. Of 54 identified species, 11 species now known from Peru are found in Mexico, 23 have been collected from both Central and South America, 29 are known to occur in forests of the Guyana Shield, and eight are recorded as far south as Argentina. Given these wide distributions, it seems probable that further intensive sampling in Peru, especially at higher altitudes and in different forest types, would turn up all genera and many if not most of the platypodine species occurring in South America.

An annotated inventory of the 40 species and 12 genera of Chrysomelinae from the Mongolian Altai is presented. Four species of leaf beetles, Chrysolina quadrangulata Motschulsky, 1860, Chrysolina graminis (Linnaeus, 1758), Phratora polaris (Schneider, 1886), and Phratora vulgatissima (Linnaeus, 1758), and one subspecies, Chrysolina perforata simillima Mohr, 1966, are newly recorded for the Mongolian Altai. Three species, Crosita clementzae Jacobson, 1899, Phaedon armoraciae (Linnaeus, 1758), and Entomoscelis adonidis (Pallas, 1771), and one subspecies, Gastrophysa viridula lenta (Weise, 1887), are new records for Bayan-Ulegei aimak. Two species, Chrysolina perforata (Gebler, 1830) and Phaedon concinnus Stephens, 1834, are new records for Gobi-Altai aimak.

Aristobia reticulator (Voet) is reported for the first time in India as a stem borer of litchi trees, Litchi chinensis Sonn. (Sapindaceae) in the State of Arunachal Pradesh. Beetles were observed feeding on bark, thereby girdling stems, branches, and soft twigs, while larvae tunneled inside the stem. Of 382 trees examined in the survey, 88.5% were damaged by this pest. The grubs caused maximum damage in saplings and branches. The beetles emerged during June–August from stems by making an exit hole, and thereafter they fed on the bark of tender branches. After pre-mating and pre-oviposition periods of 4.8 and 7.5 days, respectively, females cut a slit into the bark and laid eggs under it. Incubation period ranged from 15 to 26 days. Newly hatched larvae first started feeding subcortically and then entered the sapwood. Larvae continued to move down the branches, feeding and ejecting frass from their tunnels. The mature larva formed a pupal cell under the bark. The mean larval and pupal periods ranged 260–288 (mean = 274.5) and 32–42 (mean = 38.4) days, respectively. Beetles emerged from the pupal cell by cutting a circular exit hole. Adult males survived longer than females. Females laid 16–43 eggs during an oviposition period of 25–42 days. The beetle has a life cycle of approximately one year. In host preference studies, A. reticulator laid eggs on litchi and guava only, although beetles were also found to feed on the bark of Cajanus cajan (L.) Huth (Fabaceae), but larval development was not observed.

The female reproductive system of Omorgus suberosus (Fabricius) is described and reproductive states identified and characterized based on the length of the basal oocytes. Using regression tree analysis, three groups were identified: immature females (≤1.29 mm), maturing females (1.30–2.06 mm), and mature females (≥2.07 mm), and differences in basal oocyte length were found among states of maturity. This study provides basic information for future studies on the ecology and reproductive behavior of O. suberosus, useful to understand the population dynamics of this species.

The female of Hologymnetis reyesi Gasca and Deloya is described and illustrated for the first time based upon specimens from Estado de México, Mexico, new state record. The species is also herein reported from the state of Guerrero, new state record. A bilingual key in Spanish and English to all the species of Hologymnetis Martínez is presented and accompanied by maps showing distributions for all species in the genus.

Eleven species of Carcinops Marseul (Histeridae: Dendrophilinae: Paromalini) are known to inhabit cactus necroses within the Sonoran Desert region. Six of these species, Carcinops curtus Reese and Swanson, new species, Carcinops rugulus Reese and Swanson, new species, Carcinops torquatus Reese and Swanson, new species, Carcinops yaquix Reese and Swanson, new species, Carcinops kumeyaay Reese and Swanson, new species, and Carcinops wenzeli Reese and Swanson, new species, are described here for the first time. Species diagnoses, distributions, and images are provided for all 11 species. A morphological species identification key is included. Two gene trees, one for the mitochondrial COI gene, the other for the nuclear CAD gene, were constructed to confirm species diagnoses and are provided herein.

The species of Derancistrus Audinet-Serville, 1832 from Cuba are reviewed. Derancistrus pilosus Devesa, Fonseca, and Barro, new species, is described. Diagnoses, photographs, distributional maps, and a key to all Derancistrus species known from Cuba are provided.
