*Frances Westley () holds the J.W. McConnell Chair of Social Innovation, Director of the Waterloo Institute for Social Innovation and Resilience (WISIR), and professor in the School for Entrepreneurship, Environment and Development (SEED) at the University of Waterloo, Canada. ***Carl Folke is the Science Director of the Stockholm Resilience Centre and the Director of the Beijer Institute of Ecological Economics of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences. He received his Ph.D. in Ecological Economics/Natural Resource Management, Department of Systems Ecology, Stockholm University, Stockholm. His research is on the role that living systems at different scales play in social and economic development and how to govern and manage for resilience in integrated social-ecological systems. ****Thomas Homer-Dixon holds the Centre for International Governance Innovation Chair of Global Systems at the Balsillie School of International Affairs in Waterloo, Canada. He received his Ph.D. from MIT in international relations and defense and arms control policy. Recently, his research has focused on threats to global security in the 21st century and on how societies adapt to complex economic, ecological, and technological change.
