Abstract

Chironomus major Wülker and Butler is a junior homonym of Parachironomus major (Goetghebuer) and is replaced with Chironomus magnus. A first description of the adult is provided along with observations on its ecology in Kentucky Lake (USA) including emergence, burrowing patterns, and geographical distribution.
