A new species of stick insect, Diapheromera arena n.sp., from western Texas and New Mexico is the first new species of Diapheromera described from the United States in several decades. It lacks armature on the head of both sexes and has a unique apomorphy of a distinctly swollen third antennal segment that easily differentiates it from other species in that genus. Despite being broadly sympatric with Diapheromera velii Walsh, the occurrence of this new species only in areas of windblown sand and sand dunes appears to function as habitat separation between these two related stick insects at the local level. Despite the new species' relatively large geographic range, it is a rare taxon and much less common than Diapheromera velii in the same region. This new species is part of the specialized sandy environment ecosystem including endemic plants, other insects, and vertebrates in western Texas and New Mexico

Acacia tortilis is a medium to large canopied tree, widely planted in desert regions of Hormozgan province in Iran. It is considered one of the most important species for reforestation of arid areas and to reduce desertification. To protect the trees against pests and diseases, a comprehensive and ecofriendly control plan is required. In recent years, a stinkbug species was observed on A. tortilis. It severely damages the trees by feeding on sap and producing honeydew that promotes sooty mold growth. The aim of the present study was to identify this stinkbug pest to species level and characterize its bacterial endosymbiont fauna with a view to designing a control program. Phylogenetic analyses using a partial COI gene sequence indicated that Nysius cymoides was the pest species damaging the trees. Sequencing of 16S rRNA and wsp showed that N. cymoides harbors two obligate endo symbionts: “Candidatus Schneideria nysicola” and “Candidatus Sulcia muelleri” and three facultative endosymbionts: Wolbachia, Pantoea, and Enterobacter. This work is the first report of Nysius cymoides as a serious pest on Acacia tortilis as well as the first characterization of its bacterial endosymbiont fauna.

The palm swamps (i.e. Veredas) in the Cerrado, Brazilian Savanna, are priority areas for conservation. The Veredas' hydrological characteristics are fundamental for the maintenance of biodiversity and economic activities in this region. However, despite this importance, only a few studies have been carried out in these areas, primarily surveys for dragonflies (Insecta: Odonata). Here, we sampled twenty-five palm swamps in a Cerrado region. We found 56 species of Odonata, ten of which were new records for the Mato Grosso do Sul State: Coenagrionidae (6), Libellulidae (3) and Aeshnidae (1). The Veredas harbor both lentic and lotic systems which contribute to the great regional diversity of Odonata. Our results increase our knowledge about Odonata diversity in Veredas areas of the Cerrado, show the importance of these environments for Odonata species, and emphasize the importance of maintaining the Veredas as Permanent Preservation Areas.

The genus MesambriaStål, 1878 is reported for the first time from India and a new species, Mesambria indica Kumar & Chandra n. sp. is described. The new species differs from previously known species in the characters outlined in the key to species. A checklist of Mesambria species known worldwide is also provided.

Pentatomids are highly diverse in the Neotropics, occurring in all biomes. Most of this diversity is distributed in the Atlantic Forest, from which 201 species occur in the state of São Paulo. Here we expand this sample by reporting for the first time the following four stink bug species to the state of São Paulo: Adoxoplatys gallardoiKormilev, 1951, Dryptocephala spinosaMayr, 1864, Pentatomiana beckeraeGrazia & Barcellos, 2004 and Phoeacia lineaticeps Stål, 1860 (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae). We provide digital images of each species and updated distribution maps.

Three new species are added to the South American genus Bythonia: Two species from Peru and one from Colombia. A key to the species of this genus is also given.

We identify a new species belonging to the genus Eupterotegaeus Berlese, 1916 (Oribatida, Compactozetidae) based on samples collected in 2015 from Hendek town, Sakarya Province. Morphological features of Eupterotegaeus hendekensis n. sp. were investigated by scanning electron microscopy. The new species Eupterotegaeus hendekensis n. sp. shows similarity to Eupterotegaeus ornatissimus (Berlese, 1908), but is differentiated by the rounded rostrum, absence of translamella or median lamellar process and the presence of an arched strong sculpture horizontally elongated on interbothridial region.

Chrysomya megacephala (Fabricius, 1794) is a pest calliphorid fly of medical and forensic importance. In this study, we report the first record of Chrysomya megacephala in Algeria, North Africa. In addition, other calliphorid species which are commonly present in Algeria are listed along with their occurrence locations.

Two specimens (one male and one female) of Ch. megacephala were captured in Mechtita, Tipaza Province during autumn and three samples, all females, were collected in Ouled Yaich, Blida Pro vince during spring. Three calliphorid species, namely Calliphora vicina Robineau-Desvoidy, Chry so mya albiceps Wied mann and Lucilia sericata Meigen, were recorded from our surveys of necrophagous Diptera in Algeria between 2010 and 2016. Ch. megacephala distribution seems to be moving rapidly northward in the Palearctic and the Nearctic regions. This new record expands the current distribution of this species in Africa and in the Paleartic Region.

During a survey on insect egg parasitoids in Uşak province (Turkey), parasitized egg clusters of Chlorochroa juniperina (L.) (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae) were collected on Juniperus oxycedrus L. (Cupressaceae). After emergence, the egg parasitoid was identified as Trissolcus semistriatus Nees (Hymenoptera: Scelionidae). This is the first record of this parasitoid reared from the egg masses of C. juniperina. This species has not been previously reported for T. semistriatus as a host species. Mainly eggs of Eurygaster spp. and different pentatomid species were used as hosts in mass culture of the parasitoid. Eggs of this species are acceptable as an alternative host to T. semistriatus during the summer. During 2016 and 2017, 61 egg clusters were collected for the first year and 83 egg clusters were collected for the second year. They have been determined to be parasitized by 31% and 27%, respectively, over the years. Also the rate of emergence and sex ratios were calculated as 98% and 79% in the egg clusters. According to these results, T. semistriatus has an important effect on the populations of C. juniperina under natural conditions in Uşak province of Turkey.

The primary aim of forensic entomotoxicology is to unravel drug-associated mortalities. This study was designed to analyze and determine impacts of multiple drugs (amitriptyline, citalopram, diazepam and morphine) on the development of Chrysomya albiceps larvae. For this purpose, a domesticated pig (Sus scrofa domesticus) was injected with a toxic dose (54.4 mg) of morphine before euthanizing with diazepam (510 mg), citalopram (476 mg) and amitriptyline (5100 mg) by gavage method. A total of five hundred maggots were collected and residual drugs in collected larvae were determined using gas chromatography/mass spectroscopy (GC/MS). Analysis of maggots showed that the Chrysomya albiceps is the major species. All three drugs were quantified (amitriptyline: 91.45 µg/kg, citalopram: 52.03 µg/kg, and morphine: 5.37 µg/kg) in developing larvae. Moreover, our results showed that at an average temperature of 35°C, Chrysomya albiceps reached the third larval stage in 72 hours. These findings clearly articulate that toxic substances alter the biological life cycles of the arthropods, consequently making forensic entomotoxicology essential for certain quantitative analyses and potential effects on the post-mortem interval. This paper represents the first entomotoxicology study in Turkey using multiple drugs.
