Two young nests of Dolichovespula arenaria were each found to have been invaded by a Vespula squamosa queen. The first nest was successfully usurped, while the usurpation process was ongoing in the second nest. This latter observation confirms that V. squamosa queens will invade well-established nests. Factors involved in the selection of D. arenaria as a new intergeneric host are briefly discussed.
