Moss and liverwort species growing on 68 mossy cap polypores (Oxyporus populinus) basidiomata (“conks”) were examined. Seventeen species of mosses in 12 families and two species of liverworts in two families were identified. Most bryophytes collected are common species. Most conks supported two or fewer species of bryophytes.

The joint Crum and Tuckerman Workshops were held in southern Ohio from May 19 to May 22, 2006. One hundred and thirteen species of macrolichens and 127 species of crustose lichens were collected. Three macrolichens were reported as new for the state: Heterodermia pseudospeciosa, Parmotrema gardneri, and Physcia plumilior. One hundred fifty-nine species of mosses, 32 species of liverworts, and one hornwort were collected. Noteworthy collections include the re-discovery of three presumed extirpated species: Anomodon viticulosus, Weissia sharpii, and Thuidium allenii.

A backpack trip to Ice Lake (2435 m) and the summit of the Matterhorn (2995 m) in the Wallowa Mountains in Oregon sponsored by Northwest Lichenologists resulted in numerous interesting finds, including several rare species and new state records. Caloplaca oblongula, C. saxifragarum, Cephalophysis leucospila, Dermatocarpon polyphyllizum, Farnoldia micropsis, and Solorina spongiosa are apparently new to Oregon. Many of the calciphiles found in this area on marble have seldom been reported from Oregon.

A disjunct occurrence of Parmelia skultii Hale has been found on a subalpine granitic promontory in Montana, extending the range about 2500 km to the south of the closest known sites in Alaska.

Recent field work and herbarium studies of historical collections resulted in one hundred and seventy-five moss species and one variety (in 38 families and 96 genera) from Streaked Mountain and the surrounding area in the Foothills Region of the Western Mountains of Maine (Oxford County). Streaked Mountain is Devonian in age and consists of igneous rocks, including granitic pegmatite, overlaid with meta-sedimentary rock as well layers of meta-limestone rock and more recently deposited glacial sediments. This study surveyed approximately a nine square mile area. Three species rare for Maine (Andreaea crassinervia, Racomitrium aduncoides and Plagiothecium latebricola) are present on Streaked Mountain. Five species, including several calciphiles that were collected in the late 1800s were not relocated: Cirriphyllum piliferum, Dicranum spurium, Entodon cladohorrizans Hylocomiastrum umbratum, and Leucobryum albidum.

A total of 51 lichens are reported for the boreal forest of Labrador, Canada. Alectoria sarmentosa, Bryoria furcellata, Plastimatia glauca, Ramalina dilacerata, Usnea filipendula and Vulpicida pinastri appear to be new to the lichen checklist for Newfoundland and Labrador (2007) and were found growing on stands of Black spruce (Picea mariana) near Winnikapau Lake in the Churchill River Basin, Labrador, north-eastern Canada (53°15.578' N, 62°36.886' W). Small cushions of Cladonia labradorica were also found near Winnikapau Lake on exposed glacio-fluvial sand blow-outs. This study makes further steps towards updating the inventory of lichen communities in the boreal forests along the Churchill River, Labrador.
