Bryum chryseum Mitt, is reported new to the moss flora of North America north of Mexico from three counties in California. The first new record was found in the Mayacmas Range of eastern Mendocino County and more recently it was found in the San Joaquin River watershed in Fresno and Madera Counties. Predominantly a species of the Neotropics, it is also known from Chile, where a Mediterranean-type climate exists very similar to that of California. An illustration of the species is included.
