This study constructs a mathematical model of impact theory based on contact dynamics theory and linear elastic contact model. On this basis, the impact noise of two cylinders was numerically simulated with finite element and transient boundary element methods. The simulation results show that the impact noise mainly came from acceleration radiation, and that the acoustic field radiated by impact noise had obvious directivity. The results of theoretical analysis, numerical simulation, and a Hertzian contact model were compared, revealing that the theoretical results agree well with the numerical results. Finally, the numerical and theoretical results were employed to explore an offshore shallow-water drilling platform.
