Guo, D.; Hu, P.-N.; Li, F.; Wang, H., and Chen, G., 2020. An empirical study on the impact of seaports on urban economic development based on VAR model: The case of Shenzhen and Shenzhen Port in the context of industrial transfer. In: Liu, X. and Zhao, L. (eds.), Today's Modern Coastal Society: Technical and Sociological Aspects of Coastal Research. Journal of Coastal Research, Special Issue No. 111, pp. 204–208. This paper is based on the analysis of ports as urban economic system that depict the overall impact of a port on the function mechanism of urban economy. Taking Shenzhen Port as an example, cargo handled at the seaports of Shenzhen, gross domestic product of Shenzhen, and the number of employed persons of Shenzhen, respectively, were chosen to build the vector autoregressive VAR model and to analyze the two sets of variables based on the impulse response and variance decomposition. The study shows that the economic development of Shenzhen has obvious stage characteristics on the development of the port, that it produces certain negative benefits, that the interaction between the two is not obvious, and that the current development of Shenzhen Port is in urgent need of transformation and repositioning.
