Prof. Dr. Terry Healy Awarded Lifetime Membership in the New Zealand Coastal Society

The lifetime membership award is awarded by the New Zealand Coastal Society in recognition of a members' contribution to the society and also to managing coastal problems throughout New Zealand. Prof. Healy has been instrumental in port design and planning development and maintenance dredging throughout New Zealand, with a particular emphasis on Port of Tauranga. Many of the coastal hazard zones and coastal monitoring programs around New Zealand have been set up with his guidance. He has trained nearly 100 masters and Ph.D. students, instilling them with a lifelong passion for the coast. He travels extensively, promoting New Zealand coastal science overseas at conferences, and through the many fellowships that he has received to visit overseas institutions. An outcome of his long-standing collaboration with the University of Bremen was the establishment in February 2010 of the international graduate school “INTERCOAST” for training Ph.D. students.
