As a country rich in mineral resources, Britain has extremely abundant coal reserves because of its special geological condition. In this paper, through analysis and comparison of the regional reserve characteristics of coal in England, Scotland and Wales, finding the relationship between coal resources and local industrial development, it is finally concluded that the prosperity of major industrial cities in Britain inevitably depends on the abundant coal supply. As the core fuel for British industrial development, coal energy has promoted the process of urban industrialization and led the world into a new era of energy economy. However, the exploitation of coal had negative effect to the underground water resources, the water cyclic system, as well as the underground water level.
