Like most pressurized equipment, pressure vessels are subject to a variety of damage and defects in offshore platforms. Under complex load and environmental conditions, the pressure vessel is prone to cracking, which further causes fatigue or even fracture on thFe pressure vessel and ultimately the catastrophic damage. This paper aims to perform the evaluation studies on reliability of pressure vessels in marine engineering. To this end, on the basis of considering the uncertainty of pressure vessel parameters such as mechanical properties, the size of the crack defect, and the working load, the reliability evaluation of the defective pressure vessel was performed, and its residual life under certain confidence and reliability was determined. The results show that the material with high fracture toughness must be selected carefully before use, and the initial crack size of the pressure vessel must be controlled strictly during use to ensure that the crack size of the pressure vessel remains always safe, thereby improving the residual life of the cracked pressure vessel. The research findings are conductive to improving the reliability analysis theory of pressure vessels in marine engineering.
