Abstract

An adult Red-shouldered Hawk (Buteo lineatus) was observed capturing and consuming an adult Pied-billed Grebe (Podilymbus podiceps) in Louisiana. Pied-billed Grebes, which regularly dive to escape predators, are rarely captured by raptors.
