The present paper reports the rediscovery of Helicobarbula porphyreoneura (Müll. Hal.) M.J. Cano in and around Jaigarh fort of Jaipur, Rajasthan (India). The article not only reports in detail the delimitation of Pseudocrossidium and the segregated genus Helicobarbula, where P. porphyreoneurum is currently placed but also provides a detailed description of the species along with illustrations that have not been published yet. Besides this, the current status of the distribution of Helicobarbula and Pseudocrossidium in India is also discussed.

During field observations in eastern Belgium, the moss Blindia acuta was found on a schist outcrop along the Hoëgne stream. This is the first report of a species of this genus from Belgium. This siliceous outcrop is dominated by Amphidium mougeotii indicating a slight base enrichment. The nearest populations in natural sites grow in Vosges mountains (eastern France) and Black Forest mountains (western Germany).

Five names in Frullania, F. convoluta Lindenb. et Hampe, F. herzogiana Steph. 1911 (= F. rio-janeirensis (Raddi) Ångstr., syn. nov.), F. herzogiana Steph. 1916 (= F. convoluta), F. convoluta var. ampliata Herzog (= F. convoluta, syn. nov.) and F. piliflora var. appendiculata Herzog (= F. peruviana Gottsche, syn. nov.) are lectotypified.

Grolle (1989) united Strepsilejeunea subcrenulata Herzog with the younger name Cheilolejeunea papillata Solari. However, transferring the former name to Cheilolejeunea was blocked by the existence of the earlier name Cheilolejeunea subcrenulata (Spruce) R.M.Schust. so Grolle used next available name which was Solari's Cheilolejeunea papillata. Unfortunately, the latter name is also a later homonym to Cheilolejeunea papillata (Herzog) Kachroo, which Grolle overlooked. Thus, the taxon is lacking a legitimate name in Cheilolejeunea. Therefore, we here replace the earliest name with a new name in the genus.

Kuwahara (1984) synonymized Metzgeria madagassa Steph. and Metzgeria thomeensis Steph. under the name Metzgeria australis Steph. So (2004) rejected this synonymy and recognized Metzgeria madagassa from Africa (excluding the syntype from Sikkim) with Metzgeria warnstorffii Steph., Metzgeria camerunensis Steph. and Metzgeria limbatosetosa Steph. as synonyms. Her treatment has generally been followed by subsequent authors of African Metzgeria. However, she overlooked the fact that Metzgeria warnstorffii is the oldest valid name.

This study aims to update the number of Phyciaceae lichens from Pakistan. Several new records have been added to the lichen flora of Pakistan, collected from different biomes. However, the lichen specimens for this study were collected from the country's cold temperate and humid subtropical climate eco-zones. A taxonomic treatment, including a description based on the newly collected material, is provided along with molecular phylogenetic analysis. Physcia biziana, Physciella nepalensis and Physconia perisidiosa are three new records for the country. Physcia aipolia and Physconia muscigena are being reported for the first time from new localities, and Physconia enteroxantha is only being collected for the second time from the country.

We present a first complete overview of the bryophyte-lichen syntaxa in the Netherlands, including diagnostic species and Red List status of vegetations representing each (sub)association. The classification is based on more than 5000 Dutch vegetation relevés, the majority recorded after the year 2000. Whenever appropriate, we integrated bryophyte and lichen syntaxonomy. The Dutch list of bryolichenosociological units consists of 168 syntaxa: 16 classes, 27 orders, 37 alliances, 82 associations and 6 subassociations. We present synoptic tables of 13 newly described syntaxa: two alliances, nine associations and two subassociations. Finally, we present ranges of the abiotic habitat variables moisture, light availabilty, nutrient richness and acidity on class level, based on estimated values of diagnostic species of individual associations in each class.

For a forthcoming catalogue of liverworts and hornworts of Central America, types and other original material from Central America deposited in the Herbarium Haussknecht (JE) are listed. We have tried to identify the earliest valid typification of all listed taxon names and lectotypifications for 36 names, as well as second-step typifications for five further names. One new synonym is proposed.

Dicranum viride is a bark-dwelling and woodland species listed in Annex II of the ‘EU Habitat Directive’. It occurs mainly in heavily managed forests. The effects of stand age, tree diameter and host tree species on the occurrence of D. viride have been studied at two distinct scales. We suggest that the effects of tree diameter and tree species are mainly related to bark roughness. The occurrence of D. viride on trees with a smooth bark is strongly related to the abundance of Hypnum cupressiforme var. filiforme, which may facilitate establishment of large leaf fragments on smooth bark. Vegetative dispersal and establishment of D. viride are inferred from the current occurrence pattern and biological traits of the species and are hypothesized as having been critical for its survival within managed forests. A straightforward and widely applicable new method of compartment prioritization is provided to facilitate the implementation of modified interventions.

We present a first treatment of the Tortella tortuosa complex for Europe. We analysed molecular relationships based on the nuclear ITS and the plastid atpB-rbcL and rps4 in a network context and thereafter characterized the identified entities by their morphology. We found eight morphologically and molecularly distinct entities at the species level, which are also supported in ASAP analyses of the molecular data; one species includes two varieties. In some cases, nuclear and plastid data suggest different relationships and we found a few likely recent hybrid collections. To the main characters of taxonomic importance belong stem anatomy, leaf shape and papillosity. We describe three species as new: T. commutata (a widespread plant; including the new var. valida), T. dolomitica (known only from the Alps) and T. splendida (an Arctic-alpine element), replacing T. arctica auct. For T. angustifolia and T. robusta (both montane) new combinations at the species level are provided. Tortella bambergeri (a submediterranean element), T. fleischeri (an Alpine element, recurring in Scotland) and T. tortuosa s. str. (widespread) complete this informal group of morphologically similar and partly related species. The species differ in ecological requirements and distribution areas, although mixed stands of two or three species are frequent. The area richest in species in Europe is the Alps with all eight species, whereas we found only four from Scandinavia.

Rusavskia dasanensis (Teloschistaceae), which was previously found in Norway, the Svalbard Islands, Ny-Ålesund, Haloya Island, the Korean Arctic station and Europe, is being reported as a new record from Darel Valley, Gilgit Baltistan, Pakistan. A description of the species is provided together with details on its range, habitat and phylogeny.

Drepanocladus turgescens is a calciphilic arctic-alpine moss species that is highly endangered in central Europe. Lowland populations are at risk of extinction, while high alpine populations have a favourable conservation status. We studied ten high-altitude populations of D. turgescens in Vanoise national park, French Alps, at the south-western margin of its range. The microtopography, substrate depth, vascular plant and bryophyte species cover, and water physico-chemical properties were sampled in the field. Sexuality and branching were studied in the laboratory. In the high alpine area, the moss either thrives on a sparsely vegetated, mineral percolating substrate where female gametangia are regularly produced on mostly unbranched stems or on peaty substrate, where individuals are sterile and tend to branch out. Competition is suggested as the main driver of the species' occurrences. We found neither male gametangia nor any sporophytes, a situation typical for most of the Alps. The high-altitude populations of D. turgescens likely episodically recruit following exceptional sporophyte production in the Alps, and by vegetative fragmentation. Management actions removing competitors may benefit the persistence of the moss in sites where the peat layer exceeds 20 cm deep.
