The following are part of a Special Series in Northwest Science. This series is associated with the science being conducted or applied by the US Fish & Wildlife Service (Service) in the Pacific Region. The mission of the Service focuses on efforts to conserve, protect, and enhance fish, wildlife, plants, and their habitats. Sound science and relevant data are essential to inform policy decisions and management actions. Excellence in science is critical to the mission of the Service. In the spirit of the Service's mission and to strengthen its conservation efforts through scientific excellence, Science Of The Service is an annual event to share and discuss the science of the Pacific Region. The purpose of the event is to enhance the awareness and understanding of the scientific information, findings, techniques, and approaches being conducted, produced, or applied. The intent of this Special Series is to disseminate this scientific knowledge broadly and strengthen the science associated with conservation.
