Diaphania costata (Fabricius) (Lepidoptera: Crambidae) is a leaffolder on Apocynaceae in the Neotropics and the southeastern United States. Adult moths photographed or captured at light in the United States have been commonly misidentified, and the species’ Nearctic distribution has been poorly documented. We provide diagnostic characters for larval and adult stages, compare it to related Old World taxa, and describe the damage to ornamental Vinca L. The species is not restricted to Texas but occurs as far east as the Atlantic Coast and as far north as Virginia. Specimens collected in daily surveys over many years indicate that the range of D. costata spread naturally from Louisiana and Texas from the 1980s into the 2000s.

The Nearctic psyllid Bactericera maculipennis (Crawford) (Hemiptera: Psylloidea: Triozidae) is one of only five known species of Psylloidea worldwide whose host plants include species of Convolvulaceae (Solanales). Current checklists of North American Psylloidea report B. maculipennis only from California and Utah. Our surveys of field bindweed, Convolvulus arvensis L. (Convolvulaceae), an Old World plant introduced into North America, show that B. maculipennis is considerably more widespread than indicated by historical accounts. We update the psyllid's geographic range to include four states (Washington, Idaho, Oregon, Montana) not previously included in contemporary checklists. The egg and fifth instar nymph are described. We provide characters of the egg and nymph that distinguish this species from a congeneric species, Bactericera cockerelli (Šulc), occasionally found on field bindweed. Photographs of the male and female terminalia are provided. Bactericera maculipennis developed successfully on field bindweed and on several species of Ipomoea (Convolvulaceae) in laboratory assays. Overwintering females collected from leaf litter and dead or dormant stems of C. arvensis at locations in Central Washington mated and began to oviposit within 7 days of removal from the field, suggesting that B. maculipennis overwinters in a temperature-controlled quiescence rather than in a true reproductive diapause. Eggs and nymphs of B. maculipennis were found on stems of C. arvensis well into November in Central Washington, suggesting that this psyllid also may overwinter in pre-adult stages, as indicated by literature accounts from the 1940s and 1950s. Lastly, we propose that successful colonization of the invasive and exotic weed C. arvensis by B. maculipennis has allowed the psyllid to expand its geographic range well beyond historical boundaries. This conclusion is based upon the scarcity of native Convolvulaceae within regions in which the psyllid is newly recorded, combined with the now extensive distribution of the invasive C. arvensis in North America.

The results of a survey of parasitoid wasps associated with herbivorous insects on Sagittaria latifolia Willd. and Sagittaria platyphylla (Engelm.) J. G. Sm. (Alismatales: Alismataceae) in the Nearctic Region are reported. The following 10 wasp species were reared from insects on S. platyphylla: Gonatocerus sp., Mestocharis tropicalis Yoshimoto, Syntomopus americanus Ashmead (all Chalcidoidea), Hexacola websteri (Crawford), Rhoptromeris sp. (both Cynipoidea), Alabagrus texanus (Cresson), Bracon sp. nr. mellitor Say, Cotesia diacrisiae (Gahan), Enicospilus glabratus (Say), and Opius (Tolbia) hoffmanni (Fischer) (all Ichneumonoidea). Three wasp species, S. americanus, Chaenusa psillosae Kula (Ichneumonoidea), and B. sp. nr. mellitor, were reared from insects on S. latifolia. All species except C. psillosae are reported as associated with a species of Sagittaria for the first time. Mesochorus discitergus Say is reported as a hyperparasitoid of C. diacrisiae for the first time and is also reported as associated with a species of Sagittaria for the first time. Opius (Tolbia) hoffmanni is reported as a parasitoid of Hydrellia sp. prob. nobilis (Loew); this is the first record of O. (T.) hoffmanni from a species of Hydrellia Robineau-Desvoidy (Diptera: Ephydridae). Mestocharis tropicalis, S. americanus, and O. (T.) hoffmanni are reported from Louisiana for the first time. Syntomopus americanus and O. (T.) hoffmanni are reported from Texas for the first time.

Sphacophilus laetus Smith, new species, from Texas is added to the Nearctic fauna of Argidae. It is described and illustrated and separated from other species of the genus.

Fenusa julia Smith and Eiseman, n. sp., from Colorado is described. It was reared from larvae mining leaves of Rosa woodsii Lindl. (Rosaceae) and is the first record of a leafmining sawfly of Rosa in North America. Notes on the life history and characters to separate if from the closely related Russian rose leafminer, F. ewaldi Smith, are given.

Longinos Navás described approximately 180 species of Mantispidae. Name-bearing types for almost 20% of these species (n = 36) were found in the Muséum national d'Histoire naturelle in Paris (MNHN). Here we provide data on the type specimen(s) and the history of major name changes for each of the Navás species held in the MNHN collection. In addition to three holotypes and five lectotypes previously identified in the collection, lectotypes are designated for 24 species, and syntypes are identified for another three species. Also, we provide a list of the paralectotypes and non-type specimens that Navás identified and that are housed in the collection. Finally, we identify two Navás species whose type specimens are apparently missing from the collection, and another whose type had been reported as possibly in the collection but was not found.

Arytainilla spartiophila (Foerster) is native to central and western Europe and a specialist herbivore on Scotch broom (Cytisus scoparius [L.] Link; Fabaceae). This psyllid has been released for biological control and become established in exotic habitats where Scotch broom is invasive (Australia, New Zealand). Accidentally introduced into North America, it is known in the Pacific Northwest from California, Oregon, and Washington, and in Canada from British Columbia. Virginia has remained the only eastern North American record. Based on fieldwork in 2015 and 2016, Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina are added to the psyllid's known eastern distribution. Its syntopy with Arytaina genistae (Latreille) at a site in western North Carolina represents the first eastern North American locale where both immigrant Palearctic psyllids of Scotch broom have been found. Adults (mainly males) of this univoltine species appeared in mid-April, numbers declined by mid- to late May when populations became female-biased, and females were present until the first half of June.

New U.S. records are given for two immigrant Old World insects established on mimosa, Albizia julibrissin (Fabaceae), based on collections from 2013 to 2015. The psyllid Acizzia jamatonica is newly reported from Arkansas (11 counties), Louisiana (3 parishes), and Oklahoma (3 counties); the westernmost collection site (95°34′) was in Oklahoma. New state records for the bruchine chrysomelid Bruchidius terrenus are Arkansas (2 counties), Kansas (1 county), Louisiana (3 parishes), Oklahoma (6 counties), and Texas (4 counties); it was taken as far west as 98°00′ in Kansas. Although the foci of introduction for both species are unknown, they might have entered the United States at southeastern ports (coastal, inland, or both) with the shipment of infested mimosa nursery stock from Asia. Following establishment, their spread north and west probably involved natural dispersal and movement of infested host plants (jump dispersal) within the United States.
