Abstract

A miniature example of the cicada Zammara calochroma Walker, 1858 was found among undetermined material from Costa Rica. The specimen has a body length of 81.20% of the average determined for the species. Other morphological variables range from 51.88%-86.36% of average size and all structures are outside the 95% Confidence Interval Estimate for the species suggesting the miniature specimen is different from the population as a whole. The specimen was collected in the wild and is a naturally occurring miniature of an adult and appears to be the first analysis of a miniature cicada.
