Abstract

A new Nearctic species of the fungus gnat genus Azana Walker was discovered in western Michigan. Azana pilosa Taber n. sp. was distinguished from the closely related North American species Azana sinusa Coher by the presence of setae on the clypeus of both sexes. Ten males and one female flew to Malaise traps in late summer. Juveniles of A. pilosa remain unknown.
