Research and collecting of the Polish tydeid mite fauna have resulted, among others, in a collective list of species occurring in bird nests. Three of them are described as new to science and two others are new to Polish fauna. A checklist of the species of the Tydeinae from bird nests is provided. The new species are: Lorryia lusciniella Kaźmierski & Marciniak sp. nov., L. buceroincerta Kaźmierski & Sikora sp. nov. and L. columbina Kaźmierski sp. nov.

Two new species of Lohmanniidae, Papillacarus (Papillacarus) internus sp. nov. from soil in Hainan Province, South China and Papillacarus (Vepracarus) hexagonus sp. nov. from rotten tree and soil in Chongqing City, Southwest China are described and illustrated. Papillacarus (P.) internus sp. nov. is most similar to Papillacarus (P.) lienhardi (Mahunka, 1997), however, it can be distinguished from the latter by the following characters: 29–30 pairs of additional neotrichal setae, seta c₁ shorter than c₂, all genital setae setiform and smooth. Papillacarus (V.) hexagonus sp. nov. is most similar to Papillacarus (V.) gueyeae (Pérez-Íñigo, 1989), however, it can be distinguished from the latter by the following characters: 38 pairs of additional neotrichal setae, 7 pairs of subcapitula setae, epimeral formula 9-4-3-4.

Supplementary descriptions of three cecidophyine species based on topotype specimens recovered from vials from the Nalepa collection kept in the Natural History Museum (Vienna, Austria) are given: Cecidophyes galii (Karpelles 1884) from Asperula aparine M. Bieb. and Galium mollugo L. (Rubiaceae), Chrecidus ruebsaameni (Nalepa 1895) com. nov. (transferred from Cecidophyopsis) from Andromeda polifolia L. (Ericaceae) and Colomerus bucidae (Nalepa 1904) from Bucida buceras L. (Combretaceae). Observations on the morphological variability of Colomerus bucidae from different host plants are given. Morphological differences between two closely related species, Cecidophyes galii and Cecidophyes rouhollahi Craemer 1999 are discussed.

Tullgren funnels are commonly used when extracting mites from substrates for ecological and taxonomic studies. During this process, extracted mites are often contaminated with soil particles and other debris, making the processing of those organisms difficult, especially for the smaller mites, such as Tarsonemidae. The Water Sugar-Water (WSW) method, here described here, is intended to facilitate the separation of the extracted mites from those fouling material. It consists of a modification of the Jenkins method, used for the extraction of nematodes. Through a combination of centrifugation with two steps of floatation (first in water and then in 1.5 molar sucrose solution), this method separates mites from contaminants. In this study, the WSW method was tested in different conditions including three soil textures, two storage times (3 days or 6 months) and leaf litter. We also evaluated the possibility to use this method for separation of the broad mite, Polyphagotarsonemus latus (Banks) (Tarsonemidae), given its common occurrence in fields where the present work was conducted. Eight of nine treatments performed consistently well with extraction efficiencies >95% (mites collected in relation to total mites present in the funnel extraction), with no significant differences among them. One treatment, using the addition of kaolin clay to the sample, retained some Phytoseiidae in the sediment pellets, reducing extraction efficiency to 88.3%. Mites of the taxa Acaridae, Cunaxidae, Eupodidae, Laelapidae, Phytoseiidae, Scutararidae, Tarsonemidae, Tydeidae, Rhodacaroidea and Orbatida were successfully removed from contaminated samples with this method. The frequency of these taxa was equally distributed between the water and sugar-water steps of the two-step floatation method. This method is fast, uses inexpensive and nontoxic compounds and has great potential for use to determine the presence of mite groups most commonly found in extractions of Tullgren funnels.

Thirty species of water mites (Acari, Hydrachnidia) were collected from standing and slowly flowing waters in Bangladesh. These are the first records of water mites from this country. Two species, Neumania nobiprobia and Arrenurus (Rhinophoracarus) smiti are described as new for science; a first description of the male is given for Mamersopsis viridis K. Viets, 1935.

Thirteen species of phytoseiid mites of the subfamilies Typhlodrominae and Phytoseiinae are reported for the first time from Spain. Typhlodromus (Typhlodromus) baeticus sp. nov. is described and four species poorly known morphologically, Paraseiulus soleiger (Ribaga), Typhlodromus (Anthoseius) ilicis Athias-Henriot, Typhlodromus (Anthoseius) recki Wainstein and Typhlodromus (Anthoseius) sapiens Athias-Henriot are redescribed based on new materials collected in Spain. Finally, the unknown male of Typhloseiulus eleonorae Ragusa & Swirski is described and additional morphological information is provided for other seven species.

The morphological ontogeny of Heptacarus hirsutus Wallwork, 1964 is described and illustrated. All instars of this species have two pairs of exobothridial setae, which is characteristic for the lower Oribatida. They have strong chelicerae, anal opening in a posteroventral position, and thick legs I and II, features which are typical for xylophagous mites. The larva has 34 gastronotal setae, including inguinal h₄, a striking feature of the lower Oribatida, this stage has also a long, cudgel-shaped Claparède's organ. In the next instars of H. hirsutus, a strong hypertrichy occurs on the posterior part of the hysterosoma, and the number of setae increases in the protonymph, deutonymph, tritonymph and adult to about 60, 75, 95 and 115 setae, respectively. In the deutonymph, tritonymph and adult of H. hirsutus, the ano-adanal plate is incompletely fussed.

Typhlodromus contains the most species in the subfamily Typhlodrominae and 85 species have been recorded in China. Two new species T. (Anthoseius) bawanglingensis sp. nov. and T. (Anthoseius) informibus sp. nov. were found by examining the specimens collected from Hainan Bawangling National Nature Reserve and Hainan Jianfengling National Nature Reserve in Hainan Islands. Herein, they are described and illustrated based on female specimens.

This experiment studied tick fauna associated to Didelphis albiventris Lund 1840 from a Cerrado area (Mato Grosso do Sul State, non-adjoining to Pantanal) inserted in a pasture and agricultural activities matrix, with few natural preserved forest patches. Authors also summarized data on ticks parasitizing Didelphis spp. in Brazil, and discussed infestation patterns in different biomes and locations. Study took place in Cervinho Farm, Bandeirantes Municipality. For captures, Tomahawk-like traps were distributed along two forest patches (30 each) during five nights. Captures occurred monthly (July/2013 to September/2014), sampling both fragments on alternate months. Animals were sedated and ticks were collected and stored in vials containing ethanol (70%) for identification. 51 D. albiventris were captured in 15 campaigns. Tick prevalence was 100%, and 49.5% of the animals were co-infested by two or more tick species. Four parasitizing species were found: Amblyomma sculptum Berlese, 1888 (78 nymphs), Ixodes loricatus Neumann, 1899 (56 adults), Amblyomma dubitatum Neumann, 1899 (45 nymphs), Amblyomma coelebs Neumann, 1899 (32 nymphs) and Amblyomma sp. (123 larvae). A. sculptum was the most abundant tick, but most frequent species were A. coelebs and A. dubitatum, followed by I. loricatus. Co-occurrences of more than two species were observed among all tick pairs. D. albiventris usually presents high prevalence of tick infestation. However, this study presented 100% prevalence. Knowledge of host-parasite relation and interactions between different ticks that coexist on a same host are essential, since such interaction may favor pathogen dissemination. This is of special relevance regarding D. albiventris, known for participating in maintenance of ecological cycles of Spotted Fever Group rickettsiae.

Four new feather mite species of the genus Amerodectes Valim & Hernandes, 2010 (Proctophyllodidae: Pterodectinae) are described from New World warblers (Passeriformes: Parulidae) of USA: Amerodectes ischyros sp. nov. from Setophaga caerulescens (Gmelin, 1789), A. charitomenos sp. nov. from S. dominica (Linnaeus, 1766), A. protonotaria sp. nov. from Protonotaria citrea (Boddaert, 1783), and A. jonesborensis sp. nov. from Parkesia noveboracensis (Gmelin, 1789). Information on the DNA barcode sequence of these four species was also analyzed.

Acarid mites associated with bark beetles feed on fungi, transfer fungal spores, and promote fungal strain recombination inside beetles' galleries. Many of these mites are omnivorous generalists, with a clear preference to mycetophagy, living in different subcortical habitats, including galleries of bark beetles. We reviewed associations of acarid mites and scolytine beetles numbering 26 mite species in 11 genera associated with 45 bark beetle species in 17 countries (134 unique records total). A new genus and species of acarid mite, Ipsoglyphus bochkovi, gen. and sp. nov. (Acariformes: Acaridae) collected from Ips typographus pheromone traps in Western Siberia, Russia, is described and illustrated from deutonymphs. The new genus differs from all other acarid genera of by a combination of the following characters: two solenidia on genu I, an unpaired eye-spot present on the anterior prodorsum, and palpal supracoxal setae (elc p) lanceolate. As part of this work, we established the following new synonymies and combinations: Halictacarus zakhvatkini (Delfinado and Baker, 1976) comb. nov. from Schulzea (=Schulzea orientalis Putatunda & Kapil, 1995 syn. nov.; Schulzea halicti Putatunda and Kapil, 1995 syn. nov.); Halictacarus indicus (Putatunda & Kapil, 1995) comb. nov. from Schulzea; Forecellinia insolita (Woodring & Moser, 1970) comb. nov. from Anoetus; Histiogaster wichmanni (Türk & Türk, 1957) comb. nov. from Caloglyphus; Reckiacarus sudeticus (Kiełczewski & Wiśniewski, 1975), comb. n. from Histiogaster; Reckiacarus stammeri (F. Türk & E. Türk, 1957) comb. n. from Histiogaster. The following names were emended to agree in gender with the generic name Histiogaster Berlese, 1883 (feminine): Histiogaster iberica Kadzhaya, 1959, Histiogaster robusta Woodring, 1966, Histiogaster rotunda Woodring, 1966, Histiogaster striatissima Mahunka, 1973. Between the variant spellings Histiogaster arborsignum Woodring, 1963 and Histiogaster arborsignis Woodring, 1966, the latter is an incorrect subsequent spelling, however, because it is in prevailing usage, we treat it as correct: Histiogaster arborsignis Woodring, 1963.

A new species of Obuloides, Obuloides crinitus sp. nov., is described based on females and males collected from the galls and twigs of Grewia occidentalis (Tiliaceae) in South Africa. Obuloides crinutus is closely related to O. namibiensis and O. rajamohani but can be distinguished by the finely granulated shields, a character that no other species of this genus has. Another notable difference is the length of prodorsal setae v2, which are longer and more strongly serrated compared to the other species of this genus which have very short and mostly smooth setae. Males of this species lack setae d1. A key to known species is provided.

The present study is based on oribatid mite materials (Acari, Oribatida) collected from Taiwan in 2017. A list of identified taxa, including 109 species/subspecies, 84 genera and 48 families, is presented; of these, 50 species/subspecies, 28 genera and 7 families are recorded for the first time in the fauna of this country, and 8 species and 1 genus are recorded for the first time in the Oriental region. A new species belonging to the genus Lohmannia (Lohmanniidae) is described from soil of the Yangmingshan National Park; L. douhua Ermilov sp. nov. differs from L. pseudoturcmenica Ermilov, 2017 by the broadly phylliform posterior exobothridial setae, narrowly phylliform rostral, epimeral and genital setae and clearly longer notogastral setae. An identification key to the known species of Lohmannia from the Oriental region is presented.
