The purpose of this application, under Articles 23.9.3 and 81.2.3 of the Code, is to conserve the name Prionocerus bicolor Redtenbacher, 1868 for a common species of soft-winged flower beetle (cleroidea, prionoceridae) by giving it precedence over the unused older name P. pertii Laporte de Castelnau, 1836 whenever these names are considered to be synonyms.
