In 2020, an established population of Dere thoracica White, 1855 (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae: Cerambycinae: Cleomenini) was detected in Clarke Co., Georgia, USA. Little information exists to assess potential ecological and economic impacts because this is the first known detection of the species outside of its native range. At sites where D. thoracica populations have been detected in Clarke Co., Georgia, we placed cut logs of seven tree species, including one known host, Albizia julibrissin Durazz. (Fabaceae), and black panel intercept traps baited with cerambycid pheromones to assess host use in the United States and investigate potential attractants for surveys. Additionally, we searched records from the community science platform iNaturalist to improve distributional knowledge of D. thoracica in the eastern United States. Adult D. thoracica emerged in low numbers only from the non-native and invasive host A. julibrissin, suggesting a potential preference for this species over the other tree species tested. No adult D. thoracica were captured in attractant-baited traps, which suggests that the trap/lure combinations tested are not effective for surveying under these conditions. Finally, eight iNaturalist observations and a fortuitous trap collection of D. thoracica were found in the United States, adding records for Meriwether Co., Georgia; Buncombe and Henderson cos., North Carolina; Spartanburg Co., South Carolina; and Hamilton and Knox cos., Tennessee. Together, our data suggest that D. thoracica is widely distributed in the southeastern United States and may favor exotic over native species as larval hosts. Additional work is needed to assess host use, survey methods, and distributional limits in its introduced range.

Four new species of the genus Trachys Fabricius from China are described and illustrated: Trachys brevicollis Peng, new species from Hunan; Trachys gibbosus Peng, new species from Jiangxi; Trachys nigripennis Peng, new species from Hunan; and Trachys wuyishan Peng, new species from Fujian.

The species of Scirtidae from North America, described both formally and informally, are reviewed and cataloged. Select nomenclatural acts from an unpublished 1967 dissertation are validated and manuscript names from this dissertation are matched with currently described species. Contacyphon pusillus (LeConte, 1853), status restored, new combination is brought out of synonymy with Contacyphon padi (Linnaeus, 1758). Two species are formally listed in their valid genus for the first time: Contacyphon modestus (LeConte, 1853), new combination and Contacyphon punctatus (LeConte, 1853), new combination. Three additional new combinations are proposed based on examination of specimens in light of modern generic definitions: Herthania exigua (Horn, 1880), new combination [from Contacyphon Gozis, 1886]; Herthania obscura (Guérin-Méneville, 1843), new combination [from Contacyphon]; Hiekecyphon spinulosus (Klausnitzer, 1976), new combination [from ?Yoshitomia Klausnitzer, 2013]. Four new synonyms are proposed at the species level: Helodes nebulosa LeConte, 1853 and Helodes picea LeConte, 1853 with Contacyphon pubescens (Fabricius, 1792), new synonyms; Contacyphon fuscescens (Klausnitzer, 1976) with C. punctatus, new synonym; Contacyphon neopadi (Klausnitzer, 1976) with C. pusillus, new synonym. Hemicyphon LeConte, 1866 is recognized as having priority over Exneria Klausnitzer, 2013, new objective synonym, resulting in Hemicyphon ruficollis (Say, 1825), new combination. State- and province-level distributions are provided for all species, and original references along with type localities are given for all genus- and species-group names and nomenclatural acts.

Ovipositional site selection is a crucial moment for female seed parasitoids as host resources are limited and subject to increased competition. Also, a seed must be of good quality in order to provide the offspring with sufficient food and space. Curculio glandium Marsham, 1802 (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) females oviposit into premature acorns, wherein larvae develop. Parasitized fruits are not chemically marked. Instead, females display opportunistic behaviors and are prone to oviposit into pierced or cracked acorns, to save the effort of drilling. Our aim was to reveal whether opportunism of C. glandium includes oviposition into acorns with channels drilled by another female and, if so, whether encountered eggs are consumed prior to the new oviposition. Females were given alternatives: I) fresh or egg-parasitized and II) egg-parasitized or naturally cracked acorns. Subsequently, paired individuals were enabled to lay eggs into acorns with: I) single and II) two pierced holes. Females preferred exploited acorns over intact (p < 0.001) while no difference was found between egg-parasitized and cracked (p = 0.47). The median number of eggs in the shared channel was significantly lower than in the separate channels combined (p = 0.0001). Results indicate that the potential consequences of oviposition in parasitized seeds (overpopulated acorns) seem to be prevented by egg consumption. In the context of no host-marking behavior, it can be interpreted as a means of diminishing future scramble competition between unrelated offspring.

Ptomaphagus medius (Rey, 1889), a European species, was recently found to occur in Ontario. It was probably accidentally introduced sometime before 1963, was well established by 1980, and is here reported from nine new localities in Ontario and five in Québec, with an east-west distributional range of at least 1,070 km. It occupies anthropogenic “culture steppe” habitats not occupied by native (indigenous) Ptomaphagus brevior Jeannel, 1949. Ptomaphagus medius is seemingly actively invasive and has replaced P. brevior in some habitats. A third species, Ptomaphagus ulkei Horn, 1885, is also reported for the first time in Canada from three localities in southern Ontario as a new country record. The known Ontario and Québec distributions of the three species are mapped. The aedeagus and spermatheca of the three species are illustrated and rede-scribed to aid future identification. An identification key and distribution maps are provided.

A new species of Ancistronycha Märkel, 1852, Ancistronycha tinauti Valenzuela and Baena, new species, is described from Andalusia (Sierra Nevada, Granada) in Spain. The habitus, genitalia, and several morphological characters of the new species are illustrated. Comparative notes with the closest species, a checklist of the species and subspecies of the genus, and a key to separate the species and subspecies of Ancistronycha are provided. Ancistronycha erichsonii erichsonii (Bach, 1854) is excluded from the Iberian fauna.

Se describe una especie nueva de Ancistronycha Märkel, 1852 de España, Ancistronycha tinauti Valenzuela y Baena, especie nueva de Andalucía (Sierra Nevada, Granada). Se ilustran el habitus, la genitalia y varios caracteres morfológicos de la nueva especie. Se ofrecen notas comparativas con las especies más próximas, una lista de las especies y subespecies del género y una clave para separar las especies y subespecies de Ancistronycha. Se excluye Ancistronycha erichsonii erichsonii (Bach, 1854) de la fauna ibérica.

Photuris potomaca Barber is a rare firefly species for which few accounts exist in the scientific literature. Those that do occur are limited in scope and lack detailed habitat descriptions. Additionally, there are no confirmed records of this species since 1978. To determine whether the species is still extant, 11 sites near historical observations along the upper reaches of the Potomac River and its tributaries in West Virginia (n = 10) and Maryland (n = 1), USA were surveyed during 2022, and 14 additional sites were surveyed during 2023 in river basins adjacent to the Potomac River in West Virginia. A secondary objective was to provide more detail on the species' morphology, flash pattern, and habitat associations. We found populations at nine locations within this species' historical watershed of the Potomac River in West Virginia and Maryland, and four locations in the Monongahela River basin of West Virginia where it had not been previously reported. Sites with populations of P. potomaca were characterized by early successional riverside habitat containing cobblestone beaches, driftwood, and sapling American sycamores (Platanus occidentalis L.; Platanaceae). Several of these sites are consistent with the recently classified and highly threatened “riverscour” ecosystems, thereby providing the first association of P. potomaca with a distinct ecosystem type. Photuris potomaca not only persists in the Potomac River basin but can also be found in scattered locations in the Monongahela River basin where it can be locally common. Inventory for P. potomaca should target unsurveyed riverscour ecosystems throughout the southeastern United States.

Nemozoma lepesmei Kippenhan, new species is described and illustrated from specimens collected from the islands of Montserrat and Guadeloupe in the French Antilles. This new species is compared to other West Indian species and a key to the species known to inhabit the West Indies is provided. Recent distributional records for Nemozoma fleutiauxi Lepesme, 1947 are included.

A new species of Coilodes Westwood, 1846 from the Cordillera Oriental of Colombia, Coilodes soledadae Arias-Buriticá, Basílio, and Vaz-de-Mello, new species is described along with a diagnosis, photographs, and discussion of its taxonomic position in the genus. This new species is the fourteenth in the genus. An update to the identification key to males of Coilodes species is presented.

Four new species of Euwallacea Hopkins, 1915, Euwallacea chiangdao Sittichaya, Smith, and Beaver, new species, Euwallacea congruens Sittichaya, Smith, and Beaver, new species, Euwallacea plenilunium Sittichaya, Smith, and Beaver, new species, and Euwallacea sulcatus Sittichaya, Smith, and Beaver, new species, are described from Thailand. Habitus photographs and diagnoses are provided with differential characters to separate them from other Euwallacea species. With the inclusion of the species described and recorded herein, the diversity of Euwallacea is increased to 81 species, of which 17 occur in Thailand. A synoptic list with updated species distributions within Thailand is provided.

Onthophagus jeffbecki Rossini and Génier, new species from western Ecuador is described and illustrated. The morphology of this new species clearly indicates that it belongs to the clypeatus group. We propose the separation of the clypeatus group into two subgroups, namely the clypeatus subgroup and the nasutus subgroup. Putative relationships of O. jeffbecki with members of the clypeatus subgroup are discussed, and an identification key is included. Finally, an annotated checklist of the described Onthophagus Latreille, 1802 of the clypeatus subgroup is provided.

In this paper, we present a detailed description and illustrations of the larval stage of Polynoncus hemisphaericus (Burmeister, 1876). This larva was discovered in the region of Magallanes, Chile beneath the carcass of a guanaco. Identification was meticulously verified through the DNA barcode method. Our findings document only the second description of a Polynoncus larva, underscoring the critical need to elucidate and document the natural history of this group.

Visits to collections holding the types of Nearctic Anthicus have revealed the following needed taxonomic changes: Anthicus haldemani LeConte (= Anthicus heroicus Casey, new junior synonym); Anthicus lutulentus Casey (= Anthicus seminotatus Casey, new junior synonym; not Anthicus cervinus La Ferté-Sénectère); Anthicus quadrilunatus La Ferté-Sénectère (= Anthicus mexicanus Pic, new junior synonym); Anthicus saucius Casey (= Anthicus decorellus Casey, new junior synonym); Anthicus squamosus La Ferté-Sénectère (= Anthicus ancilla Casey and Anthicus flohri Pic, new junior synonyms). Anthicus saucius Casey, revised status is removed from synonymy with Anthicus haldemani LeConte and elevated to the species level. Lectotypes are selected for: Anthicus coracinus LeConte, Anthicus terminalis LeConte, Anthicus quadriguttatus Haldeman, A. quadrilunatus, and A. squamosus. Material from identifications of loaned materials has revealed two new species for North America, Anthicus grancuenca Chandler, new species (Great Basin Region) and Anthicus uintah Chandler, new species (Utah), plus four new country records: Anthicus basimacula Champion (USA), Anthicus lecontei Champion (Honduras), Anthicus quadrilunatus La Ferté-Sénectère (USA), and Anthicus saucius Casey (Mexico). New collection records for the various species are included, often documenting significant range extensions.
