Abstract

Stable flies, Stomoxys calcitrans (L.), are serious bloodsucking pests of man and animals. This paper reviews the development of chemical insecticides and application technology used to control stable flies. Emphasis is given to stable fly control on beef cattle and beef cattle premises in the United States, especially through the use of recently developed and currently developing methods. Achieving control of stable flies may require communitywide or regional cooperation and a multipronged chemical approach integrated with cultural, physical, and biological methods.
