*</sup>Valeriy Barannik is associate professor of Kharkov State Academy of Municipal Economy (KSAME). He received his MSc from the Kharkov State University in physics. He also worked as the chief of the laboratory of the marine water protection in the Ukrainian Research Institute of Ecological Problems. He has 30 years experience in mathematical modelling and system analysis of the anthropogenic impacts on the environment. The last 12 years he has worked with governmental and international organizations with environmental problems in international waters, environmental protection and pollution control. ^**Olena Borysova is associate professor of Kharkov State Academy of Municipal Economy (KSAME) and deputy project leader of GIWA subregions 22, 23, 24 (Black Sea, Caspian Sea, Aral Sea). She received her MSc in soil science and agrochemistry from Leningrad (St-Petersburg) State University, 1987 and MSc in environmental pollution and control from the University of Manchester, UK, 1994. She also has PhD in environmental geography, 1999, from Odessa State University, Ukraine. She has 15 years of research in environmental policy and management, experience of working with international and local environmental authorities, and experience in multinational projects planning and implementation. ^***Felix Stolberg is Head of the Department of Environmental Engineering and Management, Kharkiv State Academy of Municipal Economy (KSAME), and Regional leader of GIWA subregions 22, 23, 24 (Black Sea, Caspian Sea, Aral Sea). He received his MSc from the Kharkov Civil Engineering University, 1960. He also has a PhD in Moscow Civil Engineering University, 1973, and Doctor of Science Degree in 1988 from Water Problems Institute of Russian Academy of Sciences. He has 25 years experience in environmental engineering and management research and practice, in particular in the field of rehabilitation of aquatic ecosystems. He also has long-term history of international cooperation, working with Finnish, Swedish and British research teams on environmental problems in water and environmental education.
