Abstract

The leaf-footed bug Leptoglossus clypealis Heidemann, 1910 (Heteroptera: Coreidae: Coreinae: Anisoscelini) is reported for the first time from Illinois. The new record, based on a specimen submitted in a student insect collection, is corroborated by material in the Illinois Natural History Survey Insect Collection (INHS) and the Michigan State University Albert J. Cook Arthropod Research Collection (MSUC). Together, these records constitute the easternmost for the species in the United States. Supplementing this note is the first Illinoisan record of Leptoglossus phyllopus (Linnaeus, 1767), based on material in the INHS, as well as a dichotomous key to the seven Illinoisan species of Coreidae with a distinctive “leaf-foot.”
