Ixora L. is a pantropical genus of 500 or more woody species. A review of Neotropical Ixora found two species described in other genera that belong to this genus, clarified the identity of another name, and discovered some plants new to science. Faramea mattogrossensis Standl. is here reclassified as I. mattogrossensis (Standl.) C. M. Taylor, and the replacement name I. standleyana C. M. Taylor is published for Psychotria decora Standl. The identity and circumscription of I. rufa Müll. Arg. are clarified and this name is epitypified. Newly described here are I. andina C.M. Taylor, I. froelichiana C. M. Taylor, I. guillenii C. M. Taylor, I. moskovitsiana C. M. Taylor, I. rudasiana C. M. Taylor, I. rudgeoides C. M. Taylor, I. schunkeana C. M. Taylor, I. smithiana C. M. Taylor, and I. vasquezii C. M. Taylor. The types of I. spruceana Müll. Arg. and I. francavillanaMüll. Arg. are not separable taxonomically, and this first name is synonymized under the second.
