30 August 2021 Notice of New Applications to the Commission (Case 3853–3857)

The following five new applications have been received since the last Notice of New Applications was published in the Bulletin (volume 78: 23, 30 April 2021). Under Article 82 of the Code, the prevailing usage of names in the applications is to be maintained until the Commission's rulings on the applications (as Opinions) have been published.

Case 3853: Eumeces niger Hombron & Jacquinot, 1853 (currently Emoia nigra) (Reptilia, Scincidae): proposed conservation of prevailing usage by setting aside a lectotype designation for Gongylus (Eumeces) freycinetii Duméril & Bibron, 1839 (currently Emoia atrocostata freycinetii). Case 3854: Macoma Leach, 1819 (Mollusca, Bivalvia, Tellinidae): proposed conservation of usage, and request for confirmation of the unavailability of Limecola Brown, 1844 and Limicola Leach, 1852. Jan K. Nielsen.

Case 3855: Proposed conservation of Sandbergeria Bosquet in Weinkauff, 1860 (Mollusca, Gastropoda) in its accustomed sense by designating Pyramidella cancellata Nyst, 1836 as type species. Dietrich Kadolsky and Ronald Janssen.

Case 3856: Canis familiaris Linnaeus, 1758 (Mammalia, Carnivora, Canidae): reaffirming the stability of the specific name for all ancient and modern breeds of dog, and their intermixed breeds. Peter J.S. Fleming, Stephen Jackson, Michael Archer and Mark Eldridge.

Case 3857: Acmaeodera brevipes Kiesenwetter, 1858 (Insecta, Coleoptera): proposed precedence over Acmaeodera cuprifera Laporte & Gory, 1835. Tom Kwast.
