Abstract

The purpose of this application, under Articles 23.9.3 and 81.2.3 of the ICZN Code, is to conserve the usage of the genus-group names Megascolia Betrem, 1928 and Regiscolia Betrem & Bradley, 1964 by suppression of their senior synonym Ascoli Agassiz, 1846. Ascoli has been subject to persistent confusion regarding its availability, leading to uncommon and inconsistent usage. Its suppression will maintain the status of two names consistently used since their introduction.
