The International Commission on Zoological Nomenclature has used its plenary power to conserve the usage of the name Acarus putrescentiae Schrank, 1781 (currently Tyrophagus putrescentiae) by replacing the current neotype with specimen BMOC 08–1010–002–1 at the University of Michigan Museum of Zoology, Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA, as the current neotype belongs to the species Tyrophagus fanetzhangorum Klimov & OConnor, 2009.
