Abstract

The differences between Trichohippopsis Breuning, 1958 and Aprosopus Guérin-Méneville, 1844 are discussed, and a redescription of the former is provided. Previously published figures of Trichohippopsis rufula Breuning, 1958 and Aprosopus gilmouri Breuning, 1962 are discussed. Trichohippopsis barbatulus Martins and Galileo, 2013 is transferred to Aprosopus, Aprosopus gilmouri Breuning, 1962 is transferred to Trichohippopsis, and T. exilis Galileo and Martins, 2006 is considered a junior synonym of Trichohippopsis gilmouri (Breuning), new combination. Trichohippopsis birai Galileo and Santos-Silva, new species, is described from Brazil (Amazonas), and a key to species of the genus is provided.
