The year 2012 will be the 60th year of publication for Weed Science. The journal continues to be one of the premier journals in the weed science discipline and in the agronomic sciences worldwide. As an example, for the past 12 months, authors from 27 countries submitted manuscripts to Weed Science comprising 52% of all submissions to the journal. The Editorial Board and the staff strive to improve the efficiency of the publication process and improve the scope of the journal. Weed Science is seeking to publish more reviews and symposium articles in the future. In the upcoming year, there will be published symposia on parasitic weeds and white papers on herbicide resistance.
For the 12 months preceding September 30, 2011, 221 manuscripts were submitted to Weed Science compared to 214 in the previous twelve-month period. Of the manuscripts submitted, 68% were accepted compared to 62% the previous year. The turnaround time continues to improve for Weed Science. The time from submission to first decision was 54 d for 2011 compared to 58 d for 2009. Table 1 shows the Impact Factor for Weed Science increased this past year. Weed Science ranks at 25th of 74 journals in the Agronomy category and 79th of 185 journals in the Plant Sciences.

The excellent reputation of the journal would not be possible without the cutting edge research submitted by authors and the diligent work of the editorial board and the hundreds of referred reviews that are submitted annually.
