*Susan G. Stafford (stafford@umn.edu) is a professor of environmental science, policy and management, in the Department of Forest Resources, at University of Minnesota. She was chair of the NSF Advisory Committee for Environmental Research and Education, which authored the Transitions and Tipping Points in Complex Environmental Systems report.
