The species of Ceropegia found in the Cape Province of South Africa are reviewed with particular reference to their occurrence in the field. A classification is proposed which departs from that put forward in recent literature: 15 species are discussed and the following new combinations are made: C. fimbriata subsp. connivens, C. fimbriata subsp. geniculata, C. africana subsp. barklyi and C. linearis subsp. tenuis. The species C. dubia is regarded as a synonym of the tropical C. meyeri-johannis and is probably not indigenous to the Cape. Information on inflorescence structures found in the Cape species, habitats and distribution is provided and each taxon recognised is illustrated.

This is the third instalment of an annotated list of Mammillaria names, continued from Bradleya 2: 65–96 (1984). A change of name is suggested for M. microcarpa Engelm., to M. milleri (B. & R.) Boed., as the former name was not validly published (provisional name).
