Water resources are an irreplaceable natural resource for human survival and economic and social development and an important guarantee for sustainable economic and social development. This study looks at the ecological footprint of the water environment in coastal areas and evaluates the ecological deficit or surplus in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei (Jing-Jin-Ji) region based on empirical results. The results showed that the water ecological footprint of the Jing-Jin-Ji region is generally in a state of deficit, with Beijing being the most serious, followed by Tianjin and Hebei. Finally, this paper puts forward countermeasures and suggestions to promote carrying capacity of water resources in coastal areas.
