Welding is the key technology in modern ship-construction engineering, which has always been the technical difficulty for all countries worldwide. There are a large number of welding processes in the manufacturing and maintenance of ships. Therefore, to alleviate some problems, such as shortening the shipbuilding cycle, improving the quality of ships, and reducing the labor intensity of workers, the application of new welding technologies must be promoted as the future developmental direction of ship welding. Ship automatic welding has become the main trend. Welding robots have many advantages, such as high flexibility, strong adaptability, and so on. In the 1980s, Japan began to try the application of a wall-climbing, welding robot and achieved good results. By improving the ship-welding equipment technology, the rapid development of the ship industry can be promoted, which will improve the application of automatic welding. This article mainly studies the application of wall-climbing robots in ship automatic welding, which has an important role in the research of ship-welding technology.
