The tarsal ultrastructures of eight leaf beetle species (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae) were examined with a scanning electron microscope (SEM). The tarsi of the species examined bear five tarsal segments (tarsomeres) and a pair of apical claws which have accessory claws in some species. The ventral surface of the proximal three tarsomeres is covered with dense tenent setae and six types of setae were found: tapered seta, spatulate seta, discoidal seta, bifid seta with tapered terminal plates, bifid seta with spatulate terminal plates, and bifid seta with drop-shaped terminal plates. The tapered seta with a deflexed and acute apex is usually located on tarsomeres I and II. The spatulate seta with a spatulate terminal plate is usually located on tarsomere III. The discoidal seta is located only on the tarsus of male beetles. The bifid setae which branch into two tips at the distal end of the seta have tapered, spatulate and drop-shaped terminal plates. The function of these setae is briefly discussed.

Micranisa Walker, 1875 is a genus of non-pollinating fig wasps in the subfamily Otitesellinae (Chalcidoidea, Pteromalidae). Ten world species belonging to Micranisa have been recorded. In this paper we describe a further species, Micranisa trispina Ma & Yang sp. nov., associated with Ficus curtipes Corner (Ficus subsection Conosycea, section Urostigma, subgenus Urostigma) from Xishuangbanna, Yunnan, China. A key to described species of Micranisa is provided.

Giulianium koreanum, new species (type locality: Daedongbae-ri, Homigot-myeon, Nam-gu, Pohang-si, Gyeongbuk Province, Korea) is described in Korea. The new species is compared with the related species, G. alaskanum Ahn and Ashe and G. tomokoae Ono and Maruyama. Illustrations for diagnostic characters of the new species and key and distribution map for the known species of the genus are provided.

A checklist of the ptinid beetles (including Anobiidae) of Peru is presented with 5 subfamilies, 22 genera, and 33 identified species. One species, Calymmaderus funki Pic, is reported as a new country record. Six genera are reported as new records for Peru (i.e. Byrrhodes, Caenocara, Mirosternus, Petalium, and Cryptorama), however, species within these genera are not yet identified. This contribution is part of the ‘Beetles of Peru’ project.

The western corn rootworm, Diabrotica virgifera virgifera LeConte, is one of the most deleterious pests of corn worldwide. Severe root injury interferes with the roots` ability to absorb water and nutrients and results in plant lodging and yield losses. After the pupation in the soil, the emerged adults primarily feed on leaves, corn silk, pollen, and kernels on exposed ear tips of corn. An absolute sampling method for adult western corn rootworm was developed exploiting the strong positive phototropic and negative geotactic behaviour of this coleopteran species. The novel developed pyramidal designed emergence trap is characterized by numerous features which facilitate the estimation of western corn rootworm populations in the field: The trap is highly efficient, simple and economical to construct, portable, easy and quick to install, durable and thus nearly maintenance-free. The installation of the trap relies on cutting corn plants at a height of 20 cm. Both the efficacy of recapturing of ten released beetles per trap and the possible negative influence of corn plant cutting on the subsequent larval development and adult emergence was investigated in a field study performed in South Tyrol (Italy) in 2015. With our pyramidal designed system, on average 99% of the beetles were recaptured within two days after releasing in the traps. Cutting corn plants shortly prior to the expected adult emergence did not significantly influence the total number of emerged beetles. Although the efficacy of this trap has been proven only for Diabrotica v. virgifera, it might be tested for other rootworm species and insects with similar behavioural characteristics.
