Clepsis anderslaneyii, new species is described and illustrated from the “sky islands” (i.e., Chiricahua, Huachuca, and Santa Rita mountains) of southeastern Arizona, U.S.A. Superficially, it is most similar to Argyrotaenia dorsalana (Dyar 1903), but it is assigned unambiguously to Clepsis Guenée on the basis of the characteristically modified transtilla, which includes a narrow or obsolete mesal portion and a dentate subbasal swollen lobe. Among Nearctic congeners, the male genitalia of C. anderslaneyii are most similar to those of C. fucana (Walsingham 1879), but those of C anderslaneyii can be distinguished by the more broadly pointed valva, narrower transtilla, bulbous uncus, and broader tegumen. The extremely short ductus bursae of the female genitalia of C. anderslaneyii is unique among Clepsis.

New distributional records are presented for three non-native megachilid bees—Anthidium manicatum (Linnaeus), Anthidium oblongatum (Illiger), and Megachile sculpturalis Smith. These bees inhabited every county in Connecticut and several others in nearby northeastern states. My records of A. manicatum from Massachusetts and Rhode Island and of A. oblongatum from Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont represent the first published state records. The multiple, largely exotic, floral hosts reported with the distributional records provide more evidence that A. manicatum and A. oblongatum are polylectic. The current distributional range and the potential impact of these adventive species are discussed briefly.

A new species of snail-killing fly, Dictya orthi (Diptera: Sciomyzidae), is described from the Delmarva States (type locality: Virginia. Stafford; Aquia Harbour, Lions Park). Provided are detailed photographs, descriptions of structures of the male terminalia, a generic diagnosis, and a key to species of Dictya from the Delmarva and adjacent states.

The life history of Haplostegus nigricrus Conde (Hymenoptera: Pergidae), a leaf-feeding sawfly of Psidium guajava L. (Myrtaceae), was studied in Viçosa, Minas Gerais State, Brazil. The life history and morphology are compared with those of Haplostegus epimelas Konow (Hymenoptera: Pergidae), another species that feeds on guava leaves. Haplostegus nigricrus females oviposit in the midrib of guava, and larvae feed on the leaves. Late-instar larvae drop to the ground and construct a cell for pupation. Cocoons are made individually with soil particles and other substrate. Three occurrence peaks of female adults were observed for H. nigricrus and two for H. epimelas. No males of H. nigricrus were found. The importance of this study to the knowledge of South American Pergidae is discussed.

Resumo.—A história de vida de Haplostegus nigricrus Conde (Hymenoptera: Pergidae), um Symphyta desfolhador de Psidium guajava L. (Myrtaceae), foi estudada em Viçosa, Estado de Minas Gerais, Brasil. A história de vida e a morfologia desse inseto são comparadas com as de Haplostegus epimelas Konow (Hymenoptera: Pergidae), outra espécie de Symphyta que se alimenta de folhas de goiabeira. Larvas de H. nigricrus alimentam-se das folhas de goiabeira e as fêmeas ovipositam em sua nervura principal. Larvas de ultimo estádio descem até o chão onde constroem uma célula para empupar. Os casulos são confeccionados individualmente com partículas de solo e outros substratos. Três picos de ocorrência para fêmeas adultas foram observados para H. nigricrus e dois para H. epimelas. Machos de H. nigricrus não foram capturados. A importância desse estudo para o conhecimento dos Pergidae Sul-Americanos é discutida.

Wyeomyia (Hystatomyia) baltae Porter, new species is described from specimens reared from the tank bromeliad Guzmania lindenii var. concolor Rauh growing in humid premontane forest on the eastern slopes of the Peruvian Andes. The description, with relevant illustrations, is of the adult male and female, as well as the pupal and larval stages.

This paper, treating the tortricid subfamily Olethreutinae, represents the second in a proposed three-part series examining variation in the number of bristles in the frenulum of female tortricid moths. Based on an examination of 6,333 individuals of 1,464 species representing 188 genera of Olethreutinae, the number of bristles in the female frenulum varies from one to six, and it is sometimes asymmetrical on the same specimen (7.5% of individuals examined). A three-bristled frenulum is the most common condition in Microcorsini, Endotheniini, Bactrini, Gatesclarkeanini, Olethreutini, Enarmoniini, and Eucosmini, with varying degrees of intraspecific variation in number within each tribe. However, in both Eucosmini and Enarmoniini several genera have a predominantly or exclusively two-bristled frenulum (e.g., Gypsonoma Meyrick, Herpystis Meyrick, and Rhopalovalva Kuznetsov in Eucosmini; Hystrichophora Walsingham, Neoanathamna Kawabe, and Pseudacroclita Oku in Enarmoniini). In Grapholitini, two- and three-bristled frenula occur in nearly equal frequency, suggesting that this character may be of some phylogenetic significance, but an overall pattern is not immediately obvious. In contrast to the situation in Chlidanotinae, where the distribution of the two- and three-bristled frenulum corroborates previously proposed phylogenetic hypotheses, we conclude that variation in the number of bristles in the frenulum in Olethreutinae is not phylogenetically informative at higher levels (e.g., tribes, subtribes) owing to the high degree of intrageneric and intraspecific variation. However, the number of bristles may be of phylogenetic significance at the generic level, particularly in Eucosmini and Grapholitini.

Okanagana noveboracensis (Emmons) is redescribed and a neotype designated to clarify the taxon. The type locality for the species becomes Buffalo, Erie County, New York. Diagnostic characters to differentiate the species from O. rimosa are provided.

The sawfly genus Barilochia Malaise (Pergidae: Perreyiinae) was known from a single specimen of one species, B. brunneovirens Malaise, from San Carlos de Bariloche, Rio Negro, Argentina. A second species from Chile, B. longivalvula, n. sp., is described and illustrated. A male of Barilochia is described for the first time. The possible host plant is Nothofagus dombeyi (Coihue) (Nothofagaceae).

Described in 1926 from Florida and Mississippi, the phyline plant bug Keltonia balli (Knight) has been known in the literature only from 10 specimens; six additional specimens, reported herein, have been found in museum collections. The mirid's host-plant relationships have remained unknown. From 2002 to 2008, I collected 359 adults and 78 nymphs (instars II–V) on Florida rosemary (Ceratiola ericoides Michx.; Ericaceae), a dioecious evergreen shrub endemic to the southeastern United States. Nymphs and all but four adults were on male plants with flower buds or flowers in October, November, or December; the mirid was not found during sampling in January, February, March, April, June, or August. Keltonia balli was found only in the Lake Wales Ridge and other sand scrubs of peninsular Florida from Clay County south to Highlands County. The plant bug is a rosemary specialist whose nymphs develop on reproductive structures of male plants. Aspects of this herbivore-plant system needing elucidation, such as the number of generations of K. balli and factors that might synchronize its seasonality with a transient resource, are discussed.

Toxorhynchites moctezuma (Dyar and Knab 1906) (status revised) and Toxorhynchites hypoptes (Knab 1907) (status revised) are resurrected from synonymy with Toxorhynchites theobaldi (Dyar and Knab 1906). Toxorhynchites trinidadensis (Dyar and Knab 1906) is synonymized with Toxorhynchites moctezuma (new synonymy). Characters are given to distinguish T. theobaldi, T. moctezuma, and T. hypoptes. Toxorhynchites moctezuma and T. hypoptes are common Middle American species whose larvae are most often found in tree holes, bamboo internodes, fallen nuts or nut husks, and artificial containers.
