This study was carried out to determine the species of leaf miner that attacks the foliage of spearmint Mentha spicata L. in ornamental plants. During the months of March to May 2023, spearmint foliage was collected in the gardens of private homes in the City of Los Mochis, Sinaloa, México. The characteristic damage caused by the insect on the mint leaf and figures of the male's genitalia are shown. On a global scale, this is the first formal record of C. hyptidis L. attacking spearmint M. spicata.
