The investigation of Campanula L. (Campanulaceae) plants in the eastern Black Sea Region of Turkey revealed three new Mecinini weevil species/host plant associations: Miarus ajugae (Herbst, 1795) with Campanula lactiflora Bieb., Cleopomiarus distinctus (Boheman, 1845) with Campanula alliariiafolia Willd. and Campanula rapunculoides L., and Cleopomiarus caucasicus Caldara and Legalov, 2016 with Campanula trachelium L. Of these weevil species, M. ajugae and C. caucasicus are new records for the fauna of Turkey. All three weevil species deposit their eggs in the ovary of the flowers and larvae feed on young seeds, where they pupate when mature.

The federally endangered Salt Creek tiger beetle, Ellipsoptera nevadica lincolniana (Casey, 1916), is found only in the saline wetlands around Lincoln, Nebraska, USA. Low numbers of adults seen in the 1980s prompted a study to estimate adult numbers by visual counts. Population estimates were conducted from 1991 to 2020, and adult estimates ranged from a low of 115 in 1993 to a high of 777 in 2002. The beetle has disappeared from six out of twelve sites and the metapopulation has shrunk from three sites in 1991 to one site in 2020. Supplemental releases of laboratory reared larvae began in 2010, but success has been difficult to determine.

Although it was described in 1878, Elaphrus viridis Horn (Carabidae) remained unknown for almost a century until its rediscovery during 1974 in the vernal pool-valley grassland region known as the Jepson Prairie in Solano County, California. Due to extensive loss and alteration of these seasonal wetlands and native grasslands throughout California's Central Valley, this beetle, commonly known as the Delta green ground beetle (DGGB), was recognized as a threatened species by the US Fish & Wildlife Service in 1980. However, despite its threatened species status, the beetle's geographic range, status, and habitat preferences have remained poorly known, factors that have hindered habitat management actions to benefit it. Presence-absence surveys were conducted throughout the entire approximately 200-km² Jepson Prairie region to document the DGGB's geographic range and identify its habitat associations and microhabitat preferences. Habitat relationships were investigated using a suite of biotic and abiotic features and discriminant function analyses to explain the beetle's geographic distribution throughout the region, its habitat associations, and preferred habitat structure. Initially, 36 habitat variables were measured at 240 randomly selected locations, with 60 locations in each of four actual or potential DGGB habitat types to characterize these habitats. These same habitat variables were also measured at 60 DGGB-occupied locations and used to determine the beetle's microhabitat preferences. Results of these field surveys and habitat analyses indicate that life stages of the DGGB prefer the sparsely vegetated habitats with short-statured vegetation where sunlight penetrates to ground level, along the gently-sloped shorelines of vernal playas underlain by Pescadero clay soils.

A catalog of all valid genus-group (13 genera, 10 subgenera) and species-group names (239 species and subspecies) of Helopinina darkling beetles (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae: Blaptinae: Pedinini) and their available synonyms is presented. For each name, the author, year, and page number of the description are provided, with additional data depending on the taxon rank (e.g., type species for genus-group names, author of synonymies for invalid taxa, notes). Verified distributional records (loci typici and data acquired from revisionary publications) for all the species were gathered and illustrated. The following new combinations are proposed: Amatodes angulicollis (Gebien), Amatodes canaliculata (Fabricius), Amatodes cordofana (Haag-Rutenberg), Amatodes delahayei (Robiche), Amatodes delicatula (Fairmaire), Amatodes demeyeri (Robiche), Amatodes drumonti (Robiche), Amatodes fasciolata (Gebien), Amatodes gebieni (Robiche), Amatodes girardi (Robiche, Le Gall, and Goergen), Amatodes granata (Gebien), Amatodes haroldi (Haag-Rutenberg), Amatodes hirsuta (Solier), Amatodes hirsutula (Solier), Amatodes jocquei (Robiche), Amatodes kochi (Robiche), Amatodes legalli (Robiche), Amatodes mucorea (Fairmaire), Amatodes muellerae (Robiche), Amatodes planicollis (Haag-Rutenberg), Amatodes planipennis (Gebien), Amatodes congoensis (Robiche), Amatodes limbourgi (Robiche), Amatodes setulosa (Quedenfeldt), Amatodes spinosa (Robiche), Amatodes claudegirardi (Robiche), Amatodes ertli (Gebien), Amatodes ferreri (Robiche), Amatodes jubae (Gridelli), Amatodes merkli (Robiche), Amatodes multicostata (Robiche), Amatodes werneri (Robiche), Psectes criberrimus (Koch), and Drosochrus costulatus (Brancsik). Finally, a neotype is designated for Nicandra okahandia (Gebien) in order to fix the taxonomic status of the species.

We reviewed the diversity of neotenic click-beetle tribe Drilini in Iran. Three species classified in two genera are known from that country: Drilorhinus klimenkoi Kovalev, Kirejtshuk, and Shapovalov, 2019, the only species of the monotypic Drilorhinus Kovalev, Kirejtshuk, and Shapovalov, 2019, and two species of the predominantly Mediterranean genus Drilus Olivier, 1790, i.e., Drilus iljini Barovskij, 1922, and Drilus iranicus Wittmer, 1967. All three species are endemic to Iran. We provide redescriptions of two Drilus species and discuss the head morphology and systematic placement of Drilorhinus.

Euceratocerus gibbifrons White is reported as a new state record for North Carolina. Specimens were collected in Union County by operating a UV (black light) trap at an aging log pile. Photos of the dorsal habitus, lateral habitus, and antennae of males and females of all three US species (E. gibbifrons, Euceratocerus hornii LeConte, and Euceratocerus parvus White) are presented along with an illustration of the only species known from Mexico (Euceratocerus argenteus White). Photos of the dorsal habitus, lateral habitus, and anterior view of the head and antennae of the holotype of E. hornii are presented. Illustrations of the antennae of most species are also provided. These images are included in an updated key to the Euceratocerus LeConte species of North America. The confused taxonomic history of Euceratocerus and the possibility of synonyms are addressed.

Lissomus cacique Johnson, new species from Costa Rica and Panama is described and discriminated from its morphologically most similar and geographically disjunct congener, Lissomus flavipennis Guérin-Méneville from Guatemala and southern Mexico. These two species form a unique pair in Lissomus Dalman distinguished by their relatively large and robust body form, yellow-brown to orange-red elytra not concolorous with the body, and the presence of a complete arcuate postcoxal carina partially delimiting the meso-metaventral crural impression. This new species is the largest of the genus and is only known from premontane cloud forests in Costa Rica and adjacent Panama. Lissomus flavipennis is known only from comparable premontane cloud forests in Guatemala and Mexico. The habitats of both species are now remnants of formerly more extensive forests and are threatened by anthropogenic activities.

Malachiine beetles characteristically show “foetometamorphosis” during their life cycles, in which the first larval instar is inactive and nonfeeding. However, its adaptive significance has yet to be elucidated. The adaptive significance of hypermetamorphosis, another type of holometamorphosis characterized by a dramatic change of larval morphology from triungulin to eruciform larval stages, has been suggested to include protection, combat, host finding, foraging, and food acquisition. Given these observations from hypermetamorphosis, it is possible that foetometamorphosis is also related to the life cycle, foraging requirements, and larval structure of malachiine beetles; however, biological data on this matter is lacking. In this paper, the mature larval structures, bionomics and life cycles of Intybia pelegrini pelegrini (Pic, 1910) and Intybia takaraensis (Nakane, 1955) are presented for the first time. Based on observations, the unusual larval developmental pattern for both species is discussed.

A preliminary evaluation of world genera based on novel characters revealed a need for nomenclatural changes within North American Tritoma Fabricius (Erotylidae: Tritomini). The previously Asian subgenus “Cyrtotriplax” (Rotitma) Chûjô, 1969, is here given full generic status. Species presently in this subgenus are given new combinations: Rotitma circumcinctus (Lewis, 1887), Rotitma discalis (Lewis, 1887), Rotitma pallidiventris (Lewis, 1887), Rotitma rufipennis (Lewis, 1887), and Rotitma sarawakensis Chûjô, 1974. Two historically controversial species of Tritoma in North America, Tritoma pulchra Say and Tritoma sanguinipennis (Say), are transferred to different genera becoming Aporotritoma pulchra (Say) and Rotitma sanguinipennis (Say), new combinations. Interestingly, the classification of Chûjô and Chûjô (1990) placed Aporotritoma Arrow, 1925 in a “Triplacini” and Rotitma in a “Tritomini” (= Cyrtotriplacini). This division is not reflected in recent phylogenetic works which present the Tritomini as doubtfully having monophyletic status. Preliminary evaluation of new characters, along with our diagnoses of A. pulchra and R. sanguinipennis, suggest a ground plan hypothesis for the tribes “Tritomini” and “Triplacini” within the current Erotylinae. A discussion of characters for use in a larger phylogenetic study of the current Tritomini is presented.

A new species of Decuanellus Osella is described from the insular serpentine soil forests of Maricao State Forest, Puerto Rico. Decuanellus coronarostris Rodriguez Ruiz and Van Dam, new species, is a new Caribbean endemic species of eyeless weevil, which was collected from a leaf litter survey of Maricao State Forest (El Bosque Estatal de Maricao) during 2017. This species differs from other Decuanellus species by its lack of tubercles on the distal part of the elytra and by a peculiar crown-shaped projection on its rostrum from which the species name is derived. A revised key to Decuanellus is presented.

This study characterizes the abundance and richness of longhorned beetles (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae and Disteniidae) collected in the canopy of a dry tropical lowland forest in Panama. The nine tree species sampled included Enterolobium cyclocarpum (Jacq.) Griseb. (Fabaceae), Pseudobombax septenatum (Jacq.) Dugand (Malvaceae), Luehea seemannii Triana & Planch. (Malvaceae), Cordia alliodora (Ruiz. & Pav.) Oken (Boraginaceae), Castilla elastica Sessé ex Cerv. (Moraceae), Anacardium excelsum (Bertero & Balb. ex Kunth) Skeels (Anacardiaceae), Cecropia peltata L. (Urticaceae), Zuelania guidonia (Sw.) Britton & Millsp. (Flacourtiaceae) and Ficus insipida Willd. (Moraceae). A total of 227 specimens of Cerambycidae and Disteniidae were collected. The most abundant species was Trestonia pulcherrima Dillon and Dillon, 1946 (23%), followed by Compsibidion vanum (Thomson, 1867) (16%). The greatest abundance and richness of beetles were recorded in the canopy of L. seemannii (90 individuals = 39%). The presence of these beetles in the forest canopy is associated with their general preference for large trees, highly complex foliar canopy architecture, and the availability of resources for the development and feeding of larvae and adults. Synchronization with plant phenology may explain the greater abundance and richness observed in L. seemannii.

Twenty-three genera and 51 species of Cleridae are reported for the state of Tamaulipas, Mexico, representing 24% of all the species known from the country. It is anticipated that many species remain to be found. For example, Morelos, another Mexican state for which there are comprehensive faunistic data, has 66 clerid species. In Tamaulipas, the most diverse genera are Enoclerus Gahan and Phyllobaenus Dejean with nine species each.

The present contribution summarized the available information on the three exotic Elateridae, namely Aeolus melliculus Candèze, 1859, Conoderus posticus (Eschscholtz, 1829) and Heteroderes vagus Candèze, 1893, currently recorded in Italy. New faunistic records and an identification key to the Italian Oophorini (Agrypninae; inclusive of the exotic species) are provided.

A second species of the rare myrmecophilous genus Myrmicophila Yin and Li, Myrmicophila motuoensis Yin, new species, is described and figured based on material collected in Xizang, southwestern China. The new species can be separated from Myrmicophila tangliangi Yin and Li from Yunnan by the different shapes of male sexual modifications on the antennae and metafemora, and of the aedeagus.

The genus Leptoplectus Casey, 1908 (Coleoptera: Staphylinidae: Pselaphinae) includes fifteen species. It is known from the Palearctic, Nearctic, Afrotropical, and Oriental regions. A single specimen of Leptoplectus vagans Löbl, 1975 has been documented from the northern part of the Korean Peninsula. In this study, two species, Leptoplectus illex Kurbatov, 1992 and Leptoplectus koreanus Byeon, Jang, Park, Kim, and Park, new species, are reported/described for the first time in Korea. A key to Korean Leptoplectus species, descriptions, illustrations of habitus and diagnostic characters, and a distribution map are provided.
