After careful examination, the fish described as Periophthalmus novaeguineaensis in the article above was confirmed to be P. takita [Jaafar and Larson (2008) Zool Sci 25(9): 946–952]. Accordingly, “P. novaeguineaensis” in the above paper should be read as “P. takita”.
