Abstract

Coleocephalocereus superbus N.P.Taylor & Olsthoorn sp. nov. is described from the north-east corner of Minas Gerais state, Brazil. Its tuberculate seeds place it in C. subg. Coleocephalocereus, but it otherwise has a unique assemblage of characters which make its relationship difficult to assess: long hypertrophic spines at the stem base, caespitose habit with branches erect, cephalium of dark brown bristles and diurnal magenta flowers.

Coleocephalocereus superbus N.P.Taylor & Olsthoorn sp. nov.
